Eilat Israel

Eilat is Israel’s southernmost city, a busy port and popular resort located at the northern tip of the Red Sea on the Gulf of Aqaba. Known for its beaches, coral reefs, nightlife, and surrounding desert landscapes, it attracts both domestic and international tourists. Development as a populated city began in 1955 with the resettlement of Jewish families from Morocco. Today, with a population of about 49,734, Eilat lies in the Southern Negev Desert at the southern end of the Arava Valley, bordering the Egyptian village of Taba to the south and the Jordanian port city of Aqaba to the east, with Saudi Arabia visible across the gulf to the southeast. Eilat has an arid desert climate with low humidity, moderated somewhat by the warm sea. Summer temperatures often exceed 104 °F (40 °C), and winter temperatures average around 70 °F (21 °C). Sea temperatures generally range from 68 to 79 °F (20 to 26 °C), and the city enjoys about 360 sunny days per year.
